Patient Views on Nurse Appearance and Its Impact on Nursing Care

Öz

This study was conducted to examine the effects of nurses' use of uniforms and other external appearance elements on patient perceptions. The study was conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional study. The study population consisted of 467 patients who attended to two different hospitals for various reasons, had no communication problems, and were willing to participate in the study. Data were collected between August 10 and 30, 2024, using the Participant Information Form and the Questionnaire Form. Among the participants, 75.6% were female, 76.7% held a university degree, 69.4% were unemployed, and 19.4% were employed as civil servants. Among the participants, 61% reported that the nurse's external appearance affected them, 41.8% felt more secure when the nurse wore a white uniform, 72.4% preferred the nurse to wear a uniform or a uniform with an apron, 61% stated that the nurse's external appearance positively affected treatment and care, and 64.7% were negatively affected by the care provided by a nurse without a uniform. Conclusion: The appearance of nurses significantly affects patients' trust in the nurses who provide care and treatment.

Hemşire Görünümü ile İlgili Hasta Görüşleri ve Hemşirelik Bakımı Üzerine Etkisi

Öz

Bu çalışma, hemşirelerin üniforma ve diğer dış görünüm unsurlarını kullanmalarının hasta algıları üzerindeki etkilerini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma, tanımlayıcı kesitsel tipte gerçekleştirildi. Çalışma evrenini iki farklı hastaneye çeşitli nedenlerle başvuran, iletişim problemi olmayan, çalışmaya katılmaya gönüllü toplam 467 hastalar oluşturdu. Veriler, 10-30 Ağustos 2024 tarihleri arasında, Katılımcı Bilgi Formu ve Anket Formu kullanılarak toplandı. Katılımcıların, %75.6’sı kadın, %76.7’si üniversite mezunu, %69.4’ü çalışmadığı, %19,4’ünün memur olduğu, tespit edildi. Katılımcıların %61 i hemşirenin dış görünümünün kendisini etkilediğini, %41.8 i bakım veren hemşiresinin beyaz üniforma giymesinin daha güven verici olduğunu, %72.4’ünün üniformalı ya da üniformalı ve önlüklü olmasını istediğini, %61’i hemşirenin dış görünümünün tedavi ve bakımı olumlu etkilediğini, %64.7’si üniformasız hemşirenin bakımından olumsuz etkilendiğini bildirmiştir. Dış görünümüm, hastanın kendisine bakım veren ve tedavi uygulayan hemşirelerin güvenini önemli düzeyde etkilediği anlaşılmaktadır.
