A Case of Thyroiditis Simulating Carcinoma Due To Brucella Melitensis

Abstract

We reported a case of a 27-year-old woman referred for evaluation of a painless thyroid mass suggesting a malignant thyroid tumor. The resected thyroidectomy material had been diagnosed as adenocarcinoma metastasis in a private pathology laboratory. Finally, the case had been diagnosed as a chronic inflammatory change secondary to supurative Brucella thyroiditis. She had normal thyroid function. We have con¬cluded that in endemic areas for brucellosis, the diagnosis of Brucella infection of the thyroid should be considered in non-febrile patients with cold nodules. ©2008, Firat University, Medical Faculty.

Brusella Melitensis Nedeniyle Karsinoma Benzeyen Tiroidit Vakası

Öz

Bu çalışmada, tiroidde ağrısız kitlesi bulunan ve malign tiroid tümör nedeniyle opere dilen 27 yaşında bayan hasta rapor edilmiştir. Tümör tanısıyla rezeke edilen tiroidektomi materyalinin başka bir patoloji laboratuvarında incelenmesinde adenokarsinom metastaz tanısı verilmiş, ancak hastanın kapsamlı araştırılmasında tiroiddeki lezyonun süpüratif brusella tiroiditine bağlı sekonder kronik iltihabi değişiklikler olduğu anlaşıldı. Hastanın tiroid fonksiyonları normal sınırlarda izlendi. Brusellanın sık görüldüğü bölgelerde tiroidde soğuk nodulu bulunan hastalarda Brusella tanısı hatırlanmalıdır. ©2008, Fırat Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi
