Girişimciler girişimcilik sürecinin başında bir iş fikrine karar verip bu iş fikrinin hayata geçirmektedirler. Yerli ve yabancı literatürde girişimcilerin iş fikrini hangi yollarla elde ettikleri konusunda sistematik bir araştırma yoktur. İlk tahlilde girişimcilerin iş fikrine karar vermesi üzerinde birçok faktörün etkili olduğu ileri sürülebilir. Ancak yapmış olduğumuz araştırma neticesinde, devlet yönlendirmesi, ebeveyn etkisi, pazar araştırması, becerileri dikkate alma, beyin fırtınası, taklitçilik, fırsatçılık ve yatay düşünme olmak üzere sekiz adet yöntemin kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Diğer taraftan, girişimcilerimizin ani, rasyonel, sezgisel, bağımlı ve çekingen karar verme yöntemlerini tercih ettikleri görülmüştür. Yapılan ilişki analizi neticesinde de bağımlı karar verenlerin ebeveyn etkisiyle; sezgisel karar verenlerin yine ebeveyn etkisiyle ve becerilere dönük; akılcı karar verenlerin ise, pazar araştırmasına dayalı ve becerilere dönük iş fikri buldukları tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca yapılan tutum farklılığı analizlerine göre; genç girişimcilerin yaşlılara kıyasla yatay düşünmeye ve devlet yönlendirmesine dayalı iş fikri bulmaya, lise mezunlarının orta öğretim mezunlarına kıyasla yatay düşünmeye dayalı iş fikri bulmaya daha eğilimli oldukları görülmüştür.
