Participation in hospital choice is a natural outgrowth of this trend. There are many factors that may influence patients hospital choice decisions. Also, type of care or services may be a factor in hospital choice. If managers of hospitals are to serve the marketplace more efficiently, they must know what factors consumers/patients use when choosing a hospital for treatment-when consumer/patients have a choice. Additionally, it is important that managers understand the relative importance of persons who influence the decision process.
