Although lysimeter applications used for determination of plant water consumption (ETc) are the most accurate and reliable method, the most important disadvantages of this method are the experienced staff and longtime requirement. The world's most widely used method to identify ETc is FAO methodology based on reference crop evapotranspiration (ETo) and plant coefficient (kc). The ETc is determined by multiplying the ETo value calculated using the climate parameters and the specific kc value of the region where a plant is grown and an appropriate irrigation scheduling can be performed. ETo can be calculated with equations that require only one climate parameter or with more complex equations that require multiple climate parameters. Numerous computer software has been developed by many researchers to make these equations easier and faster to use. The most common computer software used for this purpose are DailyET, CROPWAT, DSS_ET, REF_ET, ETo Calculator, IAM_ETo and ETO. There are similarities and differences to predict ETo among these software, such as the required climatic parameters, the usage fees, the availability of technical support and the ease of access. The purpose of this study is to identify the features, advantages, disadvantages and differences between the computer software (DailyET, CROPWAT, DSS_ET, REF_ET, ETo Calculator, IAM_ETo, ETO) developed to calculate ETo worldwide.
