Ağır Metal Toksisitesinin Kanser ile İlişkisi

Öz

Ağır metaller çevremizde sıklıkla bulunan yüksek atom numarasına sahip toksik maddelerden biridir. Ağır metaller ağız, solunum ve deri yolu ile alınır ve çoğunlukla vücuttan atılamadığı için çeşitli dokularda birikirler. Bu birikim sonucunda oksidatif stres, DNA hasarı ve kanseri de içeren pek çok hücresel bozukluğa neden olurlar. Ağır metallerin bazıları (Fe, Cu, Zn, Ni, Se) hayati öneme sahip olsa da bunların belirli bir dozun üzerinde alınması toksik etkilere neden olmaktadır. Diğerleri (Hg, Cd, Pb) ise az miktarda dahi alınsa bile hücre için zararlıdır. Bu derlemede, çevremizde bulunan bazı ağır metallerin kanser ile olan ilişkileri hakkında bilgi verilmektedir.
