THE EXAMINATION OF SOME MOTORIC AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF ELITE CLASS HANDBALL PLAYERS THROUGHOUT ONE SEASON TRAINING PERIOD ABSTRACT

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine some motoric and physiological parameters of elite class male handball players throughout one season training period. Fifteen elite class male handball players aged 19-30, playing in primary league voluntarily participated in this study. All field and laboratory tests were given twice: one before and one after the season. Subjects performed 260 training sesions and 60 cup and league competitions during the nine-month period the first two months of which were planned as preparatory phase. Statistical analysis were done using paired t-test. As a result of one year follow-up training, no significant changes were observed in the body weights of the subjects. At the end of the season, their body fat significantly decreased (p< 0.01), but their lean body weight significantly increased (p< 0.01). Vertical and double-feet jumping, and 5x30 m speed endurance running values showed significant improvements (p<0.01) although no significant improvement was found in their 30m sprint results. While the increment in the anaerobic
power values were significant, there was a significant decrease in their aerobic power values (p< 0.01). Significant increases were also obtained in the left and right hand grip strength of the subjects (p< 0.01). In this study, it was determined that one season follow-up training had positive effects on some motoric and physiological parameters of high level male handball players.
