RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY STUDY OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION IN SPORTS SCALE (SISS)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a scale which will be useful in the analysis of sports social integrative effect on the sport participants. The subject group of this study was composed of under-graduate and graduate university students who actively participate in nature sports and who were students of universities of Ankara (Gazi Üniversitesi, Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Ankara Üniversitesi, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Bilkent Üniversitesi). In the data collection process approximately 500 subjects were reached and truely completed 406 subjects' (230 male and 176 female) questionnaires were taken into consideration in the statistical analysis. Social Integration in Sports Scale (SISS) is composed of two main part. First part of the scale was consisted of items seeking demographic information from the participants and second part was composed of 32 items questioning the personal, social, psychological, physical and integrative benefits gathered from sport participation. In the evaluation of the items 5-point Likert type scale was used (1= completely disagree to 5= completely agree). In the statistical analysis of the data exploratory factor analysis was conducted to identify the sub-factors of the scale. In exploratory factor analysis, principal component analysis with varimax rotation test was applied. To identify the questionnaire items internal consistency Cronbach's Alpha internal consitency test was conducted to the sub-factors and to the total questionnaire. As a result of principal component analysis with varimax rotation, 7 factors, eigen values over 1, were identified. The variance explained by these factors was 60.37%. Items 9., 10., 11., 16., 17.,18. and 20. composed the first factor, items 19., 21., 22., 25., 26., 27. and 28. composed the second factor, items 2., 12., 13., 14. and 15. composed the third factor, items 29., 30., 31. and 32. composed the fourth factor, items 1., 4., 7. and 8. composed the fifth factor, items 6., 23. and 24. composed the six factor, and items 3. and 5. composed the seventh factor of the scale. The Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency values of the first factor was 0.80, second factor's value was 0.82, third factor's was 0.80, fourth factor's alpha value was 0.82, fifth factor's was 0.71, sixth factor's alpha value was 0.75 and seventh factor's alpha value was 0.55. Total scale's Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency value was 0.91. As a result, the analysis of this study revealed that Social Integration in Sports Scale (SISS) will be helpful as an instrument for subsequent researches which will evaluate sports contribution to the social integration of people participating in sports activities.

SPORDA SOSYAL BÜTÜNLEŞME ÖLÇEĞİ (SSBÖ) GEÇERLİK VE GÜVENİRLİK ÇALIŞMASI

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı sporun sosyal bütünleşme üzerindeki etkisini değerlendirmede kullanılabilecek bir ölçek geliştirmektir. Çalışmanın örneklem grubunu Ankara'da bulunan üniversitelerde (Gazi Üniversitesi, Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Ankara Üniversitesi, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Bilkent Üniversitesi) okuyan ve doğa sporlarına aktif olarak katılan lisans ve yüksek lisans öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Dağıtılan toplam 500 ölçekten doğru olarak doldurulmuş 406 (230 erkek, 176 bayan) adedi değerlendirilmeye alınmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak Sporda Sosyal Bütünleşme Ölçeği (SSBÖ) kullanılmıştır. Birinci bölümü katılımcıların kişisel özelliklerini sorgulayan ifadeler oluştururken ikinci bölümü katılımcıların spora katılımları sonucunda elde ettikleri kişisel, sosyal, psikolojik, fiziksel ve bütünleşme gibi kazanımların değerlendirildiği 32 madde oluşturmaktadır. Maddelerin değerlendirilmesinde 5-puanlı Likert tipi ölçek kullanılmıştır (1= kesinlikle katılmıyorum; 5= kesinlikle katılıyorum). Verilerin istatistiksel analizinde ölçeğin alt boyutlarını ortaya çıkarabilmek için keşfedici faktör analizi uygulanmış ve keşfedici faktör analizinde varimax eksen döndürmeli temel bileşenler analizi yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Anketin iç tutarlılığını test etmek için keşfedici faktör analizi sonucunda belirlenmiş olan alt boyutlara ve toplam ölçeğe Cronbach's Alfa iç tutarlılık testi uygulanmıştır. Varimax eksen döndürmeli temel bileşenler analizi sonucu özdeğeri 1'den yüksek 7 faktör tespit edilmiştir. Tespit edilen faktörlerin ölçeğe ilişkin açıkladıkları varyans %60.37'dir. Birinci faktör 9, 10, 11., 16, 17,18. ve 20. maddelerden, ikinci faktör 19., 21., 22., 25., 26., 27. ve 28. maddelerden, üçüncü faktör 2., 12., 13., 14. ve 15. maddelerden, dördüncü faktör 29., 30., 31. ve 32. maddelerden, beşinci faktör 1., 4., 7. ve 8. maddelerden, altıncı faktör 6., 23. ve 24. maddelerden ve yedinci faktör 3. ve 5. maddelerden oluşmuştur. Faktörlerin Cronbach's Alpha iç tutarlılık değerleri birinci faktör için 0.80, ikinci faktör için 0.82, üçüncü faktör için 0.80, dördüncü faktör için 0.82, beşinci faktör için 0.71, altıncı faktör için 0.75 ve yedinci faktör için 0.55 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Toplam ölçeğin Cronbach's Alpha iç tutarlılık değeri ise 0.91 çıkmıştır. Sonuç olarak yapılan araştırmanın analizleri; Sporda Sosyal Bütünleşme Ölçeği'nin sporun, sportif aktivitelere katılan insanlara sosyal bütünleşme anlamında sağladığı katkıları ölçme ve değerlendirmede kullanılabilir bir ölçek olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.
