THE PERCEPTIONS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ABOUT COMPETENCY LEVELS OF MEASUREMENT-EVALUATION SUBJECT IN THE NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHING PROGRAM
Abstract
The aim of this survey is
to define the perceptions of Physical Education (P.E) teachers about the
competency levels of measurement-evaluation subject in the new primary school
teaching program. The research has descriptive quality and scanning model has
been used. In order to gather the data of the perceptions of P.E teachers about
the competency levels of measurement-evaluation subject; a questionnaire,
consisting of three sub-dimensions ("the selection for the measurement
tool" 19. item α=,898, "the
practice of the implementation" (10 item) α=,923, "the evaluation of the data" (14 item) α=,943 and "general
sufficiency" (43 item) α=,963
has been prepared. The survey consists of 170 P.E teachers working at schools
of three central districts of Konya (Karatay, Meram, Selçuklu). The practice of
this consists of 102 P.E teachers working at primary schools of three central
districts of Konya (Karatay, Meram, Selçuklu). As a result of this survey; the
perceptions of P.E teachers about the competency levels of
measurement-evaluation subject in the new primary school teaching program seem
to be between "sufficient" and "partially sufficent". The
partially sufficient measurement technique to be prepared according to the
whole P.E teachers in P.E classes is; student’s product file, control list and
rubric (classification scale). The partially sufficient the measurement
technique to be prepared for the practice of the implementation is; the
implementation of techniques to be used in student’s product file, the
implementation of control list, the implementation of rubric. The partially
sufficient the measurement technique to be prepared for the evaluation of the
data is; the evaluation of the rubric and grading the rubric results. Teachers
see themselves most capable about the subject "exam", which is a
traditional method. They tend to see themselves more inadequate for the
alternative assessment and measurement techniques known as the necessity of the
new program, compared with the traditional techniques.
