THE CONSTRUCT AND CRITERION RELATED VALIDtY OF THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH PHYSICAL SELF-PERCEPTION PROFILE (CV-PSPP)
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the construct and criterion related validity of "The Children and Youth Physical Self-Perception Profile, CY-PSPP" for schoolchildren. Three hundred and ninety nine boys (Mage=12.34 ± 1.09 years) and 418 girls (Mage=12.38± 1.10 years) schoolchildren voluntarily participated in this study. ”CY-PSPP" and "Physical Activity Assessment Questionnaire" were administered to participants. Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used to test the construct validity of CY-PSPP. The relationship of each CY-PSPP subscales with physical activity level was analyzed by Pearson Product Moment Correlation. MANOVA analysis revealed significant differences in physical self- perception scores between athletes and non-athletes; physical activity participants and non-participants, less frequent and high frequent physical activity participants for both females and males (p<.01). Besides, results of Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis showed significant and positive relationship between MET scores and the perceived spot competence, body attractiveness, physical strength, and physical condition subscales of physical self perception for girls. On the other hand, for males significant relationship between MET scores and sport competence, physical strength and physical condition subscales of physical self perception were obtained (p<. 01). As a conclusion, all of the analysis supported the construct and criterion related validity of CY-PSPP for schoolchildren.
