AN INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PEAK ANAEROBIC POWER-CAPACITY AND BODY COMPOSITION IN HANDBALL PLAYERS

Abstract

Pre-research was carried out on male handball players who played in Turkish Handball First Divisions, also the main research was carried out on National Turkish Male Handball Team players in order to analyze the relationship between Peak Anaerobic Power-Capacity and body composition. At the pre-research 18 male handball players were measured who were involved in training 3-15 years ( mean 8,72 + 3,52) and aged between 18-27 ( mean 21,39 + 2,65). After Wingate Anaerobic Bike Test at the pre-research, the mean of rel Peak AnP was 8,88 + 1,13 W/kg, rel AnC was 7,26 + ,82 W/kg and percent fat was % 10,48 + 5,92. As a result of bivariate correlation analysis, significant differences were found in the relationship between anaerobic power and percent body fat ( r = -,47) and in the relationship between anaerobic capacity and again percent body fat ( r = -,56). In the regression analysis, it was found that both AnC and AnP predict percent 32 of total variation of the observation in body composition, but this finding was not meaningful at the level of ,05. In order to test the significance, the statistical result level was utilized as ,01 and ,05. At the main research, 25 national handball players, who were involved in training 7-23 years ( 14,28 + 4,14 ) and aged between 20-34 (26,48 + 3,98) were measured. After Wingate Anaerobic Bike Test of main research, the mean of rel Peak AnP was 8,73 + 1,15 W/kg, rel AnC was 7,43 + ,80 W/kg and percent fat was % 11,30 + 3,98. As a result of bivariate correlation analysis of the main research, significant differences were not found in the relationship between anaerobic power and percent body fat ( r = -,20) and in the relationship between anaerobic capacity and again percent body fat ( r = -,11). In order to test the significance, the statistical result level was utilized as ,01 and ,05. The findings of the research were discussed under the light of literature and some suggestions were made.
