FOREIGN BODY ASPIRATION: A CASE REPORT

Foreign body aspiration (FBA) is common under 3 years of age. FBA can cause sudden respiratory failure. Furthermore, it leads to many respiratory system complications. Therefore, FBA is an important cause of mortality and morbidity for this age group. FBA cases are usually followed by diagnoses like pneumonia, bronchitis or bronchial asthma in the late period that history, clinical and laboratory findings suggesting foreign body aspiration can not be detected. We reported a 2-year-old male patient with pneumonia, who were administered various treatments. In thorax CT of this case, an image compatible with foreign body was seen in the right middle lobe-upper lobe separation area. Granulation tissue was detected in the entrance of the right main bronchus by rigid bronchoscopy and marked improvement occured in lung aeration after bronchoscopy. This case was reported to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis of foreign body aspiration because of high mortality and morbidity and the necessity of considering the foreign body aspiration in children with recurrent pulmonary infections.

YABANCI CİSİM ASPİRASYONU: OLGU SUNUMU

Öz

Yabancı cisim aspirasyonları ( YCA) 3 yaş altı çocuklarda sık görülür .Ani solunum yetmezliğine neden olabileceği gibi, pek çok solunum sistemi komplikasyonuna zemin hazırlar. Bu nedenle bu yaş grubu için önemli mortalite ve morbidite nedenidir.YCA olguları yabancı cisim aspirasyonunu düşündürecek öykü, klinik ve laboratuvar bulgularının saptanamadığı geç dönemde genellikle pnömoni,bronşit veya bronşiyal astım gibi tanılarla takip edilirler.Bu olgu sunumunda pnömoni tanısıyla muhtelif tedaviler uygulanmış olan 2 yaşındaki erkek hastaya yer verildi. Olgumuzun toraks BT'sinde sağ orta lob üst lob ayrım bölgesinde yabancı cisim ile uyumlu görüntü izlendi. Rijit bronkoskopi ile sağ ana bronş girişinde granülasyon dokusu saptandı ve bronkoskopi sonrası akciğer havalanmasında belirgin düzelme görüldü. Bu olgu yabancı cisim aspirasyonunda yüksek mortalite ve morbite riski nedeniyle erken tanının önemini ve tekrarlayan akciğer enfeksiyonu öyküsü olan çocuklarda yabancı cisim aspirasyonunun akılda tutulması gerektiğini vurgulamak amacıyla sunulmuştur.
