Examining the Use of Digital Learning Tools by Gifted Students

Abstract

This study aims to examine the awareness and use of digital learning tools among gifted students of different ages and levels attending Science and Art Centres (BİLSEM). The research also examines how often gifted students recognise and use Web 2.0 tools, as well as how they relate digital learning tools to lessons in an educational context. The study group consists of a total of 68 gifted students, including 32 female and 36 male students, who are enrolled in various programmes at BİLSEMs in different districts of Istanbul in 2024. In determining the study group, convenience sampling, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used. The distribution of female and male participants was also taken into account. A mixed method combining qualitative and quantitative methods was preferred in the study. A semi-structured interview form containing 10 questions and prepared with expert opinion was applied to the participants. Then, data was collected by applying the Web 2.0 Tools Usage Scale to the same sample group. The data obtained from the interviews with the students were analysed using descriptive content analysis, and codes and themes were created. Descriptive statistics and frequency analysis were used to analyse the data obtained from the Web 2.0 Tools Usage Scale. According to the results obtained, it was determined that gifted students frequently use Web 2.0 tools in their daily lives and create content.
