Parasites have complex life cycles and different life stages which has different requirement and sensitive to environmental changes. Therefore, parasites interact with environmental pollution in variety of ways. Reduction or increase in their level of infection and diversity of species shows that changes are occurring in the environment. Also, certain parasites can accumulate heavy metals at concentration that are orders of magnitude higher than those in the host tissue or aquatic environment. In this review, the value of fish parasites as a bioindicator in monitoring aquatic ecosystem will be discussed.
