Nurses' Attitudes, Knowledge Levels and Perceptions of Care Quality in Nutritional Assessment

Objective: This research was conducted to evaluate nurses' nutritional assessment knowledge level and perceived nutritional care quality. Method: The descriptive, relationship-seeking research was conducted with 140 nurses in a city hospital between July 2021 and September 2021. The data of the study were collected with the "Personal Information Form" consisting of 9 questions and the "Importance of Nutritional Evaluation in Nurses, Level of Knowledge on Nutritional Care and Perceived Nutritional Care Quality Evaluation Scale" consisting of 26 items. Descriptive statistics methods were used to analyze the data. In comparisons between groups; t test was used in independent groups, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) in case of three or more groups, and Tukey Test was used in multiple comparisons. P<0.05 was taken for statistical significance. Results: The average attitude score of the nurses participating in the research was found to be 10.71±4.03, the average knowledge level score was 28.22±4.72, and the average quality perception score was 23.16±8.05. It was found that postgraduate nurses' attitudes towards the importance of nutritional assessment were higher than high school graduates, and those who received nutrition training had a higher level of knowledge and lower attitude scores than those who did not receive training. Conclusion: In this study, which was conducted to evaluate the nutritional assessment knowledge level of nurses and the perceived quality of nutritional care, the attitude scores and knowledge levels of nurses with postgraduate education; It was also found that nurses with nutrition training had higher attitude scores and knowledge levels.

Hemşirelerin Nütrisyonel Değerlendirmede Tutum, Bilgi Düzeyleri ve Bakım Kalitesi Algıları

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırma hemşirelerin nütrisyonel değerlendirme tutumlarının, bilgi düzeyinin ve algılanan nütrisyonel bakım kalitesinin değerlendirilmesi amacıyla yapıldı. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı, ilişki arayıcı türde yapılan araştırma bir şehir hastanesindeki 140 hemşire ile Temmuz 2023-Eylül 2023 tarihleri arasında yapıldı. Araştırmanın verileri 9 sorudan oluşan “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ve 26 maddeden oluşan “Hemşirelerde Nütrisyonel Değerlendirmenin Önemini, Nütrisyonel Bakıma İlişkin Bilgi Düzeyini ve Algılanan Nütrisyonel Bakım Kalitesini Değerlendirme Ölçeği” ile toplandı. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistik yöntemleri kullanıldı. Gruplar arası karşılaştırmalarda; bağımsız gruplarda t testi, üç veya daha fazla grup olması durumunda tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanıldı. Normal dağılım göstermeyen verilerde iki grup karşılaştırmasında Mann Whitney U testi, üç veya daha fazla grup olması durumunda Kruskal Wallis ve farklılık olması durumunda ileri analizde Hocberg’s Gt2 testi kullanıldı. İstatistiksel anlamlılık için p<0,05 alındı. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelerin tutum puan ortalaması 10,71±4,03, bilgi düzeyi puan ortalaması 28,22±4,72, kalite algısı puan ortalaması 23,16±8,05 olarak bulundu. Lisansüstü hemşirelerin nütrisyonel değerlendirmenin önemine yönelik tutumlarının lise mezunlarından daha yüksek olduğu ve nütrisyon eğitimi alanların eğitim almayanlara göre bilgi düzeyinin yüksek, tutum puanlarının düşük olduğu bulundu. Sonuç: Hastaların tedavi süreçlerinde önemli yeri olan nütrisyon desteğinin doğru şekilde uygulanmasının öneminden yola çıkıldığında bu konuda en önemli sağlık profesyoneli olan hemşirelerin bilgi, tutum ve kalite algılarının ne düzeyde olduğunun bilinmesi önemlidir. Hemşirelerin nütrisyonel destek sağlama ile ilgili bilgi, tutum ve kalite algılarının bilinmesi, durumun ortaya konulması ve hemşirelere gereken desteğin sağlanmasına katkı sunar. Özellikle yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalışan hemşirelerin çoğunlukla yaptığı uygulamalardan olan nütrisyonel destek sağlanmasında hemşirelere eğitim programları uygulanabilir.
