Determination of Post-discharge Knowledge Levels of Burn Patients and Their Relatives

Öz

Objective: This study was carried out to determine the post-discharge knowledge levels of the burn patients and their relatives. Methods: This study is descriptive. The subjects comprised of total 280 persons, including 192 patients visiting training and research hospital burn policlinic in the Central Anatolia Region for post-discharge wound care and check, and 88 patient relatives. Data of the subjects who were pediatric patients and who had dementia were collected from them relatives. A questionnaire prepared by the researcher on the basis of the literature data was used as the data collection instrument. Data were collected from patients and their relatives by face to face interview method. SPSS 11.5 package software was used in data evaluation, the percentage numbers, Pearson, Likelihood Ratio and Fisher Chi-Square tests were applied. Result: The results revealed that the post-discharge burn patients and their relatives had lack of knowledge on the use of medicine, dressing, exercises, position, bath, clothing requirements, infection prevention and symptoms of infection, and wanted to be more enlightened on these subjects. It was determined that the patients and their relatives informed at the time of discharge had more knowledge on the post-discharge burn treatment and care. Conclusion: In line with the study results, a number of suggestions were made on organization of planned discharge training courses to the burn patients and their relatives by means of audiovisual training materials, and introduction of a post-discharge information line easily accessible to the patients and their relatives.

YANIKLI HASTALARIN VE YAKINLARININ TABURCULUK SONRASI BİLGİ DÜZEYLERİNİN BELİRLENMESİ

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırma yanıklı hastaların ve yakınlarının taburculuk sonrasıbilgi düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Bu çalışma tanımlayıcı niteliktedir. Çalışma İç Anadolu Bölgesi’ndeki bir ilimizde bulunan eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinin yanık polikliniğine taburculuk sonrası yara bakımı ve kontrol amacıyla başvuran 192hasta ve 88 hasta yakını olmak üzere toplam 280 kişi üzerinde uygulanmıştır. Çocuk hastalar ve iletişim kurulamayan ileri yaşta demanslı hastalarınyakınlarından veri toplanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak, araştırmacı tarafından literatür bilgileri dikkate alınarak hazırlanan soru kağıdı kullanılmıştır. Veriler hastalar ve hasta yakınlarıyla yüz yüze görüşme yöntemiyle toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde SPSS 11.5 paket programı kullanılmış; yüzdelik sayılar, Pearson, Likelihood Ratio ve Fisher ki kare önemliliktestleri uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Bu araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, yanıklı hasta ve yakınlarının taburculuk sonrası ilaç kullanımı, pansuman, egzersiz, pozisyon,banyo, giyim gereksinimi, enfeksiyondan korunma ve enfeksiyon belirtilerihakkında bilgi eksikliği olduğu ve bu konularda daha fazla bilgi almak istedikleri saptanmıştır. Taburculuk sırasında bilgi aldığını ifade eden hasta veyakınlarının yanık sonrası tedavi ve bakıma ilişkin daha fazla bilgiye sahipoldukları belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda yanıklı hasta veyakınlarına görsel ve işitsel eğitim materyalleriyle, planlanmış bir taburculuk eğitimi verilmesi ve taburculuk sonrası hasta ve yakınlarının rahatça ulaşabilecekleri bir danışma hattının kurulmasına ilişkin önerilerde bulunulmuştur
