ÇOCUKLUK DÖNEMİ OBEZİTESİNİN YÖNETİMİNDE HEMŞİRENİN ROLÜ

Yıl 2011, Cilt: 13 Sayı: 1, 72 - 80, 01.04.2011

Öz

Çocukluk dönemi obezitesinin önlenmesi ve tedavisinde ilk adım, sorunun tanınması ve kabul edilmesidir. İkinci adım çocukların doğru alışkanlık kazanmalarında önemli olan ebeveyn eğitimidir. Birinci Basamak Sağlık Hizmetleri’nde çalışan hemşirelerin, çocuğu beş yaşından önce en az on iki kere değerlendirme olanağı bulunmaktadır.

Nurse’s Role in the Management of Childhood Obesity

Yıl 2011, Cilt: 13 Sayı: 1, 72 - 80, 01.04.2011

Öz

The first step in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity is recog- nizing and accepting the problem. The second step is parent education, which is important for making children to acquire correct eating habits. Nur- ses working in Primary Health Care have the opportunity to assess children at least twelve times before the age of five, which is the appropriate time for nurses to evaluate parental perceptions of obesity and to make necessary at- tempts. Studies carried out so far indicate that mothers’ knowledge and per- ceptions of obesity are not appropriate. Nurses play a crucial role to inform and educate the parents about the obesity in general and its relation with growth curves. This education starts when a child is born and continues du- ring the during the visits of healthy child. Children are taught healthy eating habits and food preferences at young ages. Nurses also have important res- ponsibilities for changing environmental factors and making them healthier in order to prevent and treat childhood obesity
