Rapidly increasing urban population in the world has resulted in a relationship breakdown between human and nature, decrease of agricultural lands, increase in poverty and disappearance of food safety. While this situation is enhancing tendency to urban agriculture in the world, it also forces the countries to produce new strategies and policies on urban agriculture.
It is known that urban agriculture contributes to local economic development, decreasing poverty, food safety, productively reuse of urban waste and wastewater, sustaining biodiversity, enabling the relationship of people living in urban with nature. In this context, Cuba provides us the only sample that is still in force of an urban agriculture experience which is made almost all of food production in a local level and with an ecological urban technique towards local consumption. In this study, urban agriculture applications especially in the capital city, Havana, were observed and a proposal was brought forward for Turkey.
