This
study is mainly designed to proinfie a better understanding of the emnoiruc
impact of international labour migration on the TurLsh Economy. Following the
introduction and a bnef review' of causes of increasing temporary migration during the last 4 decades.
complexity of measuruing
benefical and detrimental effects of internafional labour migration
is analyzed from the scopr of both exporting and importing countries in order to get better insight to the main topic.
During the 1970's. remittances halt
been used to finnnce a growing share of Turkey's imports. Without
remittances. Turkev would not have achieved higher economic growth rate, and
increase in its exports capacities.
The
Turkish expenence shows that the spending patterns
of migrant workers tend to be
highly affected by change in national economic policies notably in foreign
exchange rates and interest rate policies. This study clearly explains
that in most
migration literature, inflationarv impact of remittances are exaggerated, and the contribution of durable goods and
housing sectors to economic development and growth is under-estimated.
