Factors Affecting Compassion Competence in Critical and Palliative Care Nurses

Öz

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the personal and work-related factors that affect the compassionate care competencies of nurses working in critical and palliative care units.
Material and Methods: The descriptive study was conducted with 441 nurses working in critical and pallative care units of state hospitals in Turkey. The data of the study were collected with the Personal Information Form and the Compassion Competence Scale . In the statistical analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, student-t, one-way analysis of variance, Tukey test; Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis were used.
Results: The difference between the nurses' Compassion Competence Scale scores according to their marital status, having children, working years, department, weekly working hours, working style and sports activities is significant (p <0.05). The model constructed from the years of employment, weekly working hours, and the number of patients cared for in a day was found to explain 2.0% of the communication, 5.0% of the sensitivity, 1.0% of the insight, and 3.0% of the total score of the Compassion Competence Scale sub-dimensions.
Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was determined that some socio-demographic characteristics, characteristics related to working life and healthy lifestyle behaviours of critical and palliative care nurses affect compassion competence.

Kritik ve Palyatif Bakım Hemşirelerinde Merhamet Yeterliliğini Etkileyen Faktörler

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmada kritik ve palyatif bakım birimlerinde çalışan hemşirelerin merhametli bakım yeterliliklerini etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte yapılan çalışma Türkiye’de hizmet veren devlet hastanelerinin kritik ve palyatif bakım ünitelerinde çalışan 441 hemşire ile yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve Merhamet Yeterliliği Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel analizinde tanıtıcı istatistikler, student-t, tek yönlü varyans analizi Tukey testi; pearson korelasyon katsayısı ve çoklu regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Hemşirelerin medeni durum, çocuk sahibi olma, çalışma yılı, çalışılan bölüme, haftalık çalışma saati, çalışma şekli ve spor yapma durumuna göre Merhamet Yeterliliği Ölçeği puanları arasındaki fark anlamlıdır (p<0,05). Çalışma yılı, haftalık çalışma saati ve bir günde bakım verilen hasta sayısından oluşturulan modelin Merhamet Yeterliliği Ölçeği alt boyutlarından iletişimin %2,0’sini; duyarlılığın %5,0’ini; iç görünün %1,0’ini ve toplam puanın %3,0’ünü açıkladığı belirlenmiştir.
Sonuç: Bu çalışma sonucunda kritik ve palyatif bakım hemşirelerinin bazı sosyo-demografik özelliklerinin, çalışma yaşamına ilişkin özelliklerin ve sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışlarının merhamet yeterliliğini etkilediği belirlenmiştir.

Katılımcılara çalışmanın amacı, elde edilen verilerin nasıl kullanılacağı açıklanmış ve bireylerden bilgilendirilmiş onay alınmıştır. Çalışma Helsinki Deklarasyonu ilkelerine uygun olarak yürütülmüştür. Ulusal yükümlülükler gereği 6698 Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu’na (KVKK) uygun davranılmıştır.
