Residue of Antiparasitic Drugs in Meat and Milk
Abstract
Preventing drug contamination of milk and meat is the responsibility of every farm. Drug residues can be
avoided by a well planned drug use program. Consumers want a safe food supply that is free of herbicides, pesticides, and
drugs. There are insufficient knowledge about drug withdrawal periods and insufficient records of treatment in our farmers.
Anthelmintic drugs are widely used to control parasitic infections in food-producing animals. However, only a limited
number of drugs are licensed for use in lactating animals. This paper presents a historical review of antiparasitic drugs use
in food animals, the causes of residues in meat and milk, tests used for their detection and their regulations in Turkey.
