The lungs ar e affected as a result of the widespread microvascular changes in the patients of Diabetes mellitus. The relations of this effect among respiratory functions control of DM and survey time were explored. 37 cases with DM and 25 healthy control cases of the same age group were recruited in the study. Respiratory function tests and carbon monoxide diffusion capacity (DLCO) measurement were performed in all cases. HbA1c level was high in 24 diabetic cases (15%±1.3) with respiratory function abnormalities. Duration in diabetic patients of the disease was 7±5.1 years. Although restrictive type disorders were detected in 24 (65%) of 37 diabetic patients none of the cases had obstructive type respiratory disorder. With high levels of HbA1c in diabetic patients, found a lower DLCO values.
