The relationship between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and sleep is one of the most researched topics. Insomnia and daytime sleepiness are commonly seen in normal individuals as in patients with COPD and affects the quality of life. Our aim in this study is to evaluate the sleep complaints by Epworth and Pitsburgh scales in centers without polisomnography which is the gold standard in sleep disorders. 33 men, 37 women a total of 70 patients participated to this study. The study was planned in two steps. COPD patients were clinically evaluated and staging were performed. In the second plan, all patients were evaluated with a sleep evaluation questionnaire. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Survey was administered to seventy COPD patients. When we examined the COPD stages and Pitsburgh quality index and Epworth sleepiness questionnaire results, we found no significant association between them. We evaluated 70 COPD patients in term of sleep complaints and we showed there is no association between the stages of COPD and the severity of sleep complaints. COPD itself affects the sleep quality negatively.
