Structural and contact analysis of disc brake assembly during single stop braking event / Tekil Durma Frenlemesi Olayında Disk Fren Mekanizmasının Yapısal ve Temas Analizi

Öz

An automobile disc brake system is used to perform three basic functions, i.e. to reduce speed of a vehicle, to maintain its speed when travelling downhill and to completely stop the vehicle. During these braking events, the disc brake may suffer of structural and wear issues. It is quite sometimes that the disc brake components fail structurally and/or having severe wear on the pad. Thus, this paper aims to examine stress concentration, structural deformation and contact pressure of brake disc and pads during single braking stop event by employing commercial finite element software, ANSYS. The paper also highlights the effects of using a fixed calliper, different friction coefficients and different speeds of the disc on the stress concentration, structural deformation and contact pressure of brake disc and pads, respectively. Results from the investigation could provide a better explanation of the variation in contact pressure distribution and in turn squeal generation. Thus, this study provides effective reference for design and engineering application of brake disc and brake pad.

Özet: Bir otomobil disk fren sistemi üç temel işlevi yerine getirmesi için kullanılır; bunlar bir taşıtın hızını azaltma, yokuş aşağı giderken taşıt hızını sabit tutma ve tamamen taşıtı durdurma görevleridir. Bu frenleme olaylarında disk yapısal veya aşınma durumlarından etkilenebilir. Disk fren bileşenlerinin yapısal olarak bozulduğu ve/veya balatanın ciddi miktarda aşındığı durumlar sıklıkla karşılaşılmaktadır. Bu nedenle bu makale ticari sonlu eleman yazılımı olan ANSYS’i kullanarak tek fren ile durma olayında gerilim yoğunlaşmasını, yapısal bozulmayı ve fren diskleri ile balatalarının temas basınçlarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Makale ayrıca sabit fren kaliperi kullanmanın, farklı sürtünme katsayılarının ve farklı disk hızlarının gerilim yoğunlaşması, yapısal deformasyon ve disk ile balata arasındaki temas basıncı üzerine etkilerini de sırasıyla aydınlatmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları temas basıncı dağılımını ve dönüş sırasında ses üretimini konusunda daha iyi açıklamalar sunabilir. Bu nedenle bu çalışma fren diskleri ve fren balataları için tasarım ve mühendislik uygulamalarına etkin bir kaynak sağlamaktadır.
