ÇAĞDAŞ SANAT ESERİNDE TİPOGRAFİNİN YERİ ÜZERİNE BİR ANALİZ

Contemporary art refers to a period that began in the final quarter of the 20th century—with New York City in the United States serving as its epicenter—and continues to the present day. Drawing on the legacy of European art history, contemporary art offers a constantly evolving understanding of art and design through new interpretations. In various European cities, artists and designers have come together to publish manifestos focusing on their perceptions of the world and the issues they wish to address regarding the world’s transformation. These texts encompass both their artistic philosophies and the characteristics of the world they wish to see transformed, or what needs to change. The evolution of art is also altering the role of various elements within compositional design. This study examines the role of typography in works of art alongside 19th- and 20th-century artistic philosophies through a literature review. The works of Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, and Ed Ruscha, which explore the use of typography in contemporary art, serve as examples in this article. The findings of the research indicate that typography serves as a primary element in some compositions, while in other cases, it creates a striking, impactful effect as an integral part of the work’s composition.

Çağdaş Sanat 20. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri New York şehrinin merkez olarak görülebileceği modern sonrası günümüze kadar süren bir dönemi tanımlamaktadır. Özellik Avrupa sanat geçmişinin izlerini taşıyan çağdaş sanat, yeni yorumlarla sürekli dönüşen bir sanat ve tasarım anlayışı sunmaktadır. Avrupa’nın farklı şehirlerinde sanatçı ve tasarımcılar bir araya gelerek dünyayı algılayışlarını ve dünyanın değişimini arzuladıkları meselelerinin üzerinde duran manifestolar yayınlamışlardır. Bu metinler hem sanat anlayışlarını hem de değişmesini arzuladıkları dünyanın nasıl özellikler taşıdığını veya nelerin değişmesi gerektiğini içermektedir. Sanatın değişimi kompozisyon tasarımında farklı unsurlarında rolünü de değiştirmektedir. Bu çalışmanın kapsamı 19. ve 20. yüzyıl sanat anlayışlarıyla beraber tipografinin sanat eseri üzerindeki rolünü literatür taraması ile incelemiştir. Çağdaş sanatta tipografi kullanımı ile ilgili çalışmaları ile Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Ed Ruscha makalenin örneklemini oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın neticesinde tipografinin bazı kompozisyonlarda asli bir unsur olduğu, bazı durumlarda ise eserin kompozisyonunun ayrılmaz bir parçası olarak vurucu, çarpıcı etki oluşturduğudur.
