The term atonality describes music that does not conform to the system of tonal hierarchies that characterised European classical music between the 17th and 19th centuries. Since the dawn of music, composers have searched for various trends that have led to the emergence of new movements. One of the most important of these movements is the twelve-tone system. Developed by Arnold Schöberg and brought to the present day by Anton Webern in his book 'Towards New Music', the 12-tone system has been explained with examples in many studies. In this study, the twelve-tone scales of Milton Babbitt's 'Three Compositions for Piano (1947)' were revealed by applying the method of content analysis, the variation scales that can be used in the work were determined with the matrix table developed, and the areas where these scales are used in the work and the percentage frequency values of the work were determined. In the light of the analyses applied in the study, Milton Babbitt, in addition to the basic rules developed by Arnold Schönberg, one of the creators of twelve-tone music, brought a different depth to this music by introducing new perspectives such as sequence repetitions on form and the intersection of determined sequences with dynamics. The systematic and rule-based structures of this music, known as atonal music, which emerged with the innovations of the modern period in music, continue to evolve today with its planned sensations woven into the dynamics of the work.

Atonalite terimi, 17. ve 19. yüzyıllar arasında avrupa klasik müziğini karakterize eden tonal hiyerarşiler sistemine uymayan müziği tanımlar. Besteciler müziğin oluşumundan bu yana farklı arayışlar içerisine girerek yeni akımların ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Bu akımların en önemlilerinden biri on iki ton sistemidir. Arnold Schöberg’in geliştirdiği, Anton Webern’ in günümüze ulaştırdığı 12 ton sistemi çalışmada genel olarak örnekler ile açıklanmıştır. Bu çalışmada ise içerik analizi yöntemi uygulanarak Milton Babbitt’in “Three Composition for Piano (1947)” eserine yönelik eserin on iki ses dizisi açığa çıkarılmış, geliştirilen matris tablosu ile eser içerisinde kullanılabilecek varyasyon diziler keşfedilmiş ve eser içerisinde bu dizilerin kullanıldığı alanlar ve esere orantısı tespit edilmiştir.
