Examining the relationship between adolescents' internet addiction, shyness, and locus of control

Öz

This study examined the relationship between internet addiction, shyness, and locus of control among adolescents. The research was conducted using an appropriate sampling method. A total of 403 participants, including 320 females (79.4%) and 83 males (20.6%), took part in the study. The Personal Information Form, Locus of Control Scale, Shyness Scale, and Computer Addiction Scale for Adolescents were employed as data collection tools. According to the results, positive correlations were found between internet addiction, levels of shyness, and locus of control. Internet addiction showed a positive correlation with the socio-economic variable, whereas no significant relationships were identified with gender and parental attitudes. Locus of control scores differed significantly according to gender and socio-economic status but showed no significant difference based on parental attitudes. These findings suggest that the risk of internet addiction among adolescents may be associated with psychological characteristics and socio-economic conditions, highlighting the importance of family- and school-based interventions.

Ergenlerde internet bağımlılığı ile utangaçlık ve denetim odağı arasındaki ilişki incelemesi

Öz

Bu araştırmada ergenlerde internet bağımlılığı ile utangaçlık ve denetim odağı arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Uygun örneklem yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmaya 320 kadın (%79,4), 83 erkek (%20,6) olmak üzere toplam 403 kişi katılım sağlamıştır. Araştırmada Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Kontrol Odağı Ölçeği, Utangaçlık Ölçeği ve Ergenler İçin Bilgisayar Bağımlılığı Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; internet bağımlılığı ile utangaçlık düzeyleri ve denetim odağı düzeyleri arasında pozitif yönlü ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. İnternet bağımlılığının sosyo-ekonomik değişkeniyle pozitif yönlü, cinsiyet ve anne-baba tutumu değişkenleri arasındaysa anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığı bulunmuştur. Denetim odağı puanlarının cinsiyet ve sosyo-ekonomik düzey değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılık gösterdiği, ancak anne-baba tutumu değişkenine göre anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmadığı bulunmuştur. Bu bulgular, ergenlerde internet bağımlılığı riskinin psikolojik özellikler ve sosyo-ekonomik koşullarla ilişkilendirilebileceğini ortaya koymakta, aile ve okul temelli müdahalelerin önemini vurgulamaktadır.
