Aim: This research was planned to determine, examine and explore the views of faculty members about
health literacy and to determine the factors affecting health literacy behaviors.
Methods: The research is a qualitative research based on descriptive analysis. The sample of the study
consists of health department lecturers who have been working at a foundation university in Istanbul for at
least one year. The maximum diversity sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was
used in the sample selection. In this direction, a "semi-structured" interview form consisting of 9 openended questions was used to learn the opinions of the participants on the subject.
Findings: The participants (n=10; 100%) agreed on the idea that "the media is not reliable and there
is a lot of information pollution in the media" has been observed. At the same time some of the
participants (n=2, 20%) cited the reliability of scientific publications.
Conclusion: It is thought that the fact that faculty members serving an important part of the society
have an understanding of health literacy will be a role model in making positive contributions to
the health level of the society.
