INDUSTRIAL DESIGN APPROACHES TO PARK PLAYGROUNDS: AN INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBILITY-ORIENTED REVIEW OF EXAMPLES

Playing has always had an important place in child development. Playgrounds are places where children socialize and play, develop problem solving skills and have equipment specially designed for these purposes. In this study, the contributions of playgrounds to child development and the industrial approaches used in playground design are discussed. Playgrounds are defined as environments where children can engage in physical activity, social interaction and support their cognitive development; play is seen as an indispensable element for the development of children’s physical, emotional and social skills. This study evaluates the effects of playgrounds on child development and effective playground design principles by conducting content analysis on 10 examples selected from Turkey and abroad. It is emphasized that play plays a critical role in children’s physical, emotional and social development, and therefore the design of playgrounds is of great importance to enhance these developmental benefits. Industrial design principles based on safety and accessibility contribute to the development of durable and aesthetic play equipment, while human-centered design aims to create spaces that are suitable for children’s needs and preferences, safe, and encourage engaging social and physical activities. The findings of this study are synthesized in the light of various studies and examples, emphasizing the important points of inclusiveness and accessibility in playground design. It also provides a comprehensive perspective on how these approaches enrich children’s play experiences, support their development and encourage social interactions among peers.

PARK OYUN ALANLARINA ENDÜSTRIYEL TASARIM ALANINDAN YAKLAŞIMLAR: ÖRNEKLER ÜZERINDEN KAPSAYICI VE ERIŞILEBILIRLIK ODAKLI BIR İNCELEME

Öz

Oyun, çocuk gelişiminde daima önemli bir yere sahip olmuştur. Oyun alanları ise çocukların sosyalleşerek oyun oynadıkları, problem çözme becerilerini geliştirdikleri mekanlardır. Bu amaçlara ulaşmak için özel olarak tasarlanmış ekipmanlara ihtiyaç bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, oyun alanlarının çocuk gelişimine sağladığı katkılar ile oyun alanı tasarımında kullanılan endüstriyel yaklaşımlar ele alınmaktadır. Oyun alanları; çocukların fiziksel aktivite yapabileceği, sosyal etkileşim kurabileceği ve bilişsel gelişimlerini destekleyebileceği ortamlar olarak tanımlanmakta; oyun ise çocukların fiziksel, duygusal ve sosyal becerilerinin gelişimi için vazgeçilmez bir unsur olarak görülmektedir. Bu çalışma, yurtdışından ve yurtiçinden seçilen (dış mekanı belirt) 10 örnek üzerinden içerik analizi yapılarak oyun alanlarının çocuk gelişimindeki etkilerini ve etkili oyun alanı tasarım ilkelerini değerlendirmektedir. Oyun oynamanın çocukların fiziksel, duygusal ve sosyal gelişiminde kritik bir rol oynadığı, dolayısıyla oyun alanlarının tasarımının bu gelişimsel faydaları artırmak adına büyük önem taşıdığı vurgulanmaktadır. Güvenlik ve erişilebilirliği esas alan endüstriyel tasarım ilkeleri, dayanıklı ve estetik oyun ekipmanlarının geliştirilmesine katkı sağlarken, insan odaklı tasarım çocukların ihtiyaç ve tercihlerine uygun, güvenli ve ilgi çekici sosyal ve fiziksel aktiviteleri teşvik eden alanlar yaratmayı amaçlamaktadır. Yapılan bu çalışmada elde edilen bulgular, çeşitli araştırmalar ve örnekler ışığında sentezlenerek oyun alanı tasarımında kapsayıcılık ve erişilebilirlik çerçevesinde önemli noktaları vurgulanmaktadır. Ayrıca, bu yaklaşımların çocukların oyun deneyimlerini nasıl zenginleştirdiği, gelişimlerini nasıl desteklediği ve akranlar arası sosyal etkileşimleri nasıl teşvik ettiği konusunda kapsamlı bir perspektif sunulmaktadır
