etkileşim kurabileceği ve bilişsel gelişimlerini destekleyebileceği ortamlar olarak tanımlanmakta;

Playing has always had an important place in child development. Playgrounds are places where
children socialize and play, develop problem solving skills and have equipment specially designed
for these purposes. In this study, the contributions of playgrounds to child development and
the industrial approaches used in playground design are discussed. Playgrounds are defined as
environments where children can engage in physical activity, social interaction and support their
cognitive development; play is seen as an indispensable element for the development of children’s
physical, emotional and social skills.
This study evaluates the effects of playgrounds on child development and effective playground design
principles by conducting content analysis on 10 examples selected from Turkey and abroad. It is
emphasized that play plays a critical role in children’s physical, emotional and social development,
and therefore the design of playgrounds is of great importance to enhance these developmental
benefits. Industrial design principles based on safety and accessibility contribute to the development
of durable and aesthetic play equipment, while human-centered design aims to create spaces that
are suitable for children’s needs and preferences, safe, and encourage engaging social and physical
activities.
The findings of this study are synthesized in the light of various studies and examples, emphasizing
the important points of inclusiveness and accessibility in playground design. It also provides a
comprehensive perspective on how these approaches enrich children’s play experiences, support
their development and encourage social interactions among peers.
