ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE GUIDANCE AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR: MECHANISMS, EVIDENCE, AND THE TENDENCY TOWARD AI-DEPENDENT BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS

Öz

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems have moved well beyond their original function as productivity tools. In everyday life, they now shape how people attend to information, how they regulate their feelings, and how they relate to one another. This narrative review examines that transformation through four mechanisms: algorithmic personalization and persuasive design, parasocial attachment to conversational agents, cognitive offloading, and anthropomorphism with trust calibration. The evidence gathered suggests that AI-mediated environments can reinforce behavioral patterns through engagement optimization, simulated social responsiveness, and the repeated delegation of cognitive tasks—though the strength and direction of these effects hinge on individual and contextual moderators such as loneliness, self-esteem, developmental stage, and baseline trust in technology. The review argues against framing AI as a uniform psychological risk. Its effects are better understood as conditional: shaped by design incentives, usage intensity, and the particular vulnerabilities a user brings to the interaction. The article concludes by considering what this means for human-centered design, digital literacy, clinical caution, and the longitudinal research needed to distinguish short-term comfort from long-term psychosocial cost.
