ANALYSIS OF TEXTS OF POEMS IN GLENCOE LITERATURE: READING WITH PURPOSE, COURSE ONE

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine and evaluate the analysing steps of two poems in one of the course books which is entitled Glencoe Literature: Reading with Purpose, Course One that is used in the 6th grade Language Arts Course One in America.. In this study that is made using the survey model which is one of the descriptive research patterns, information is drawn out of Ryan Benetz , teacher in SSA Phoenix, by using the correspondence technique. GLRwP consists, three books – Student edition, Learner’s notebook and Teacher’s edition – are used and there’s also a website designed for these books. Every unit of this book that is shaped as “the big question” and “genre focus” consists of five steps – “warm-up”, “four reading workshops”, “two-part writing workshop”, “comparing literature workshop” and “wrap- up”. Furthermore the course book has a “total of units” that is shaped by “the big question” and “genre focus”. Although a certain type of text is emphasized in every unit, different types of texts can be seen that enable students to compare and contrast the types of texts.

GLENCOE LITERATURE: READING WITH PURPOSE, COURSE ONE’DA ŞİİR METİNLERİNİN İŞLENİŞİ

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ABD’de 6. sınıf Temel Dil Becerileri Birinci Kur/ Language Arts Course One dersinde okutulan ders kitaplarından biri olan Glencoe Literature: Reading with Purpose, Course One’da yer alan iki şiir metninin işleniş basamaklarını ortaya koymaktır. Betimsel araştırma desenlerinden tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, yazışma tekniğine başvurularak Sonoran Science Academy Phoenix öğretmenlerinden Ryan Benetz’den bilgi alınmıştır. GLRwP öğrenci kitabı (student edition), öğrenci çalışma kitabı (learner’s notebook) ve öğretmen kılavuz kitabı (teacher’s edition) olmak üzere üç kitaptan oluşmakta ve bu kitaplar için düzenlenmiş bir İnternet sitesi bulunmaktadır. Kitabın“büyük soru” ve “metin türü” etrafında şekillenen her ünitesi, “ısınma”, “dört okuma semineri”, “iki aşamalı yazma semineri”, “karşılaştırma semineri” ve “üniteyi başarıyla tamamlama” olmak üzere beş basamaktan oluşmakta ve kitap “büyük soru” ile “metin türü”nün şekillendirdiği bir “ünite bütünlüğü” taşımaktadır. Her ünitede belli bir metin türüne yoğunlaşılmış olsa da öğrencilerin metin türleri arasında karşılaştırma yapmalarına olanak sağlayacak şekilde farklı metin türlerine de yer verilmiştir.
