Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Critical and Creative Thinking in Education
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the research conducted in the field of education on critical and creative thinking in the context of skills, abilities, and competencies, and to carry out a bibliometric analysis of these studies. In line with this aim, a bibliometric analysis was conducted based on the articles retrieved from the Web of Science database on March 9, 2025, using the keywords (“creative thinking” AND “critical thinking”) AND (“skills” OR “abilities” OR “competencies”). The studies obtained from the search were subjected to specific criteria, and as a result, a bibliometric analysis was carried out with 149 articles. The R-Studio software was used to conduct the bibliometric analyses. Within the scope of the study, the distribution of research on critical and creative thinking by years, the most prolific authors and journals, the citation status of authors and countries, international collaboration networks, and prominent themes were examined. The results indicate that academic production in this field has accelerated over the past ten years and that studies are more intensively conducted in certain countries. Based on the findings, this study is considered to have the potential to serve as a guiding resource for future research in the field of critical and creative thinking.
