In the context of determining the authenticity of narrations of hadith, many con- cepts were used in the books of al-Jarh wa al-ta‘dīl by hadith scholars. One of these is the term sulūk al-jāddah the followed track , in which the narrator encounters an isnād chain of narration but, based on his weakness of mind or other similar reasons, adapts it to the better-known isnād. Although this term is considered to have been rarely used, it has been an important point of consideration in the critique of hadith. This paper aims to clarify the usage of this term by giving some examples in the history of hadith, as well as examining the relation to other forms of hadith methodology
