BENLİK SAYGISI İLE CERRAHİ OLMAYAN ESTETİK MÜDAHALELER ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİDE BEDEN İMGESİ BAŞ ETME STRATEJİLERİNİN ROLÜNÜN İNCELENMESİ

Öz

Amaç: 2021 yılında gerçekleştirilen cerrahi olmayan estetik prosedürlerin sayısı bir önceki yıla kıyasla %44 oranında artmıştır (Estetik Plastik Cerrahi Ulusal Veri Bankası, 2021,s. 6). Bu artışı etkileyebilecek temel psikolojik mekanizmalar anlaşılması estetik müdahale öncesi ve sonrasında hastanın iyi oluşu açısından oldukça değerlidir. Bu çalışma, benlik saygısı ile cerrahi olmayan estetik müdahaleler arasındaki ilişkide görünüşü düzeltme ve olumlu mantıksal kabullenme beden imgesi baş etme stratejilerinin rolünün incelenmesi amaçlamaktadır. Yöntem: Araştırmada ilişkisel tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 267 kadın ve 43 erkek olmak üzere 310 bireyden oluşmaktadır. Katılımcıların yaşları 18 ile 29 arasında değişmektedir. Araştırmanın verileri Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği ve Beden İmgesi Baş Etme Stratejileri Ölçeği aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 24 programı ile Process makro eklentisi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Analiz sonuçlarına göre, olumlu mantıksal kabullenme baş etme stratejisi benlik saygısı ile cerrahi olmayan estetik müdahaleler arasındaki ilişkide biçimlendirici rol oynamaktadır. Beden imgesi ile baş ederken yüksek düzeyde olumlu mantıksal kabullenme stratejisi kullanan kişilerde benlik saygısı ile cerrahi olmayan estetik müdahale arasındaki ilişki zayıflamaktadır. Öte yandan, görünüşü düzeltme stratejisi ile benlik saygısı ile cerrahi olmayan estetik müdahaleler arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur. Ancak, bu stratejinin biçimlendirici rolü desteklenmemektedir. Elde edilen bulgular alanyazın kapsamında tartışılacaktır. Özgünlük: Son on yılda, estetik amaçlı müdahalelerin başlangıç yaşının erken yaşlara kadar indiği bilinmektedir. Araştırmanın sonuçları, bedenini olumlu algılama ve iyi yönleri ile var olduğu gibi kabul etmenin genç erişkinlikte estetik müdahale girişimlerini etkilediğine işaret etmektedir. Bu durumda, sosyal medya aracılığıyla maruz kalınan estetik standartların özellikle, genç erişkinler üzerinde etkisinin azaltmanın bir yolu olarak olumlu mantıksal kabullenme beden imgesi baş etme stratejisinin önemini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışma estetik müdahale uygulamalarında benlik saygısının ve beden imgesi ile baş etme stratejilerinin risk ve koruyucu faktörler olabileceğini göstermektedir.

INVESTIGATION THE ROLE OF BODY IMAGE COPING STRATEGIES IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND NON-SURGERY AESTHETIC INTERVENTIONS

Öz

Purpose: The number of non-surgical aesthetic procedures increased 54% in 2021 when compared to the previous year (Aesthetic Plastic Surgery National Data Bank for, 2021, p. 6). Understanding the basic psychological mechanisms that may affect this increase is very valuable for the well-being of the patient before and after the aesthetic intervention. This study aims to examine the role of appearance correction and positive logical acceptance body image coping strategies in the relationship between self-esteem and non-surgical aesthetic interventions. Method: Relational screening method was used in the study. The sample of the study consists of 310 young adults, 267 women and 43 men. The data of the study were collected through Sociodemographic Information Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and The Body Image Coping Strategies Inventory (BICSI). Data were analyzed with SPSS 24 using the Process macro. Findings: According to the results of the analysis, positive rational acceptance coping strategy has a moderator role in the relationship between self-esteem and non-surgical aesthetic interventions. The relationship between self-esteem and non-surgical aesthetic intervention weakens in people who use a highly positive logical acceptance strategy when dealing with body image. On the other hand, significant correlations were found between the strategy of fixing appearance, self-esteem and non-surgical aesthetic interventions. However, the moderator role of this strategy is not supported. The findings will be discussed within the scope of the literature. Originality: In the last ten years, it is known that the age of onset of aesthetic interventions has decreased to early ages. The results of the study found that positive perception of the body and accepting it as it exists with its good aspects affect aesthetic intervention attempts in young adulthood. In this case, it demonstrates the impact of body image coping strategies as a way of reducing the impact of aesthetic standards exposed through social media, especially on young adults. This study shows that self-esteem and strategies to cope with negative body image can be risk and protective factors in aesthetic interventions.
