The international promulgation of gender equality policies is a consequence of both the supports by international agreements and resolutions as well as the demands of placed by feminist movements. Hovewer, these policies are inadequatly based on a liberal gender equality approach and have relatively short histories in terms of their implementations in organisations. Since the 1980s in terms of civil and academic achievement of women's movements and public policies Turkey has made considerable progress. Gender quality policies are integrated into Development Plans, which are important documents for setting economic and social agenda in Turkey. Between 1985 and 1990 Sixth Five Year Development Plan, for example, provided a first step towards integration and mainstreaming of gender equality policies at least in documentations of programmes. In this plan it is possible to see elements of social policies that seek to redefine the role of women within the family gender mainstreaming in national planning. However, the most challenging achievement of Turkey at the national level has been the establishment of General Directorate of Women's Status.Despite a longer history of women's movement, gender equality policies in Britain merely date back to the 1970s. One of the distinguishing developments in Britain is development of recognition of gender equality in the private sector companies, even if they are largely based on a classical liberal equality approach. These two countries provide potent examples of how gender equality efforts may be pursued and national agendas in divergent but internationally informed ways within nation states. The interplay of gender equality politics at macro, meso and micro levels yield well to international comparison. Although there are some similarities between Britain, Turkey and the othr EU countries in terms of approval of international conventions, policy implementations in Turkey remain largely inefficient.
