The effects of radiation on the fetus

Abstract

Ionizing radiation can directly affect fetal development in several ways. Radiation dose and the time of exposure are critically important in the development of these effects. The most sensitive cells to ionizing radiation are those that are rapidly dividing or in the mitotic phase. Radiation can cause fetal death or congenital anomalies, growth deficiencies or several structural and/or functional development abnormalities. In this review, the relationship between radiation and pregnancy is evaluated in view of the recent literature.

Öz

İyonizan radyasyon, fetus gelişimini direkt olarak çeşitli mekanizmalarla etkileyebilir. Radyasyon dozu ve maruziyet zamanı, bu etkilerin gelişiminde kritik şekilde önemlidir. İyonize edici radyasyona en hassas hücreler hızlı bölünen ve mitotik fazdaki hücrelerdir. Radyasyonun organizma üzerine etkileri doğum öncesi veya doğum sonrası ölümle sonuçlanabileceği gibi, doğumsal anomaliler, büyüme bozuklukları ve çeşitli yapısal ve fonksiyonel gerilikler olarak da karşımıza çıkabilir. Bu yazıda, radyasyon ve hamilelik arasındaki ilişki, son literatür bilgileri eşliğinde değerlendirildi.
