Elements That Increase the Recovery Process Success After an Unexpected Negative Environmental Event

Yıl 2015, Cilt: 3 Sayı: 1, 22 - 47, 23.07.2016

Öz

In this study, organizational resistance against unexpected negative environmental events is investigated. First, the process organizations get through after an exposure to such events is examined. Second, factors that possibly increase organizational resistance and success of the recovery process are defined and literature related with these factors is given. In scope of this study, an empirical part is included in which the relationship between aforementioned factors and organizational recovery process is investigated. Last part of this paper presents the findings obtained from the analysis of data of 106 businesses affected by a flood in Samsun city in 2012 and discussions related with these findings. As a result of this empirical study, 10 out of 26 factors are correlated with the success of organizational recovery process. In addition to that, organizational recovery process is correlated with economical, technical and intra-organizational social capacities of organizations. In this respect, the findings are interpreted and necessary suggestions are made in the discussion part.
