STREPTOCOCCUS EQUI ASSOCIATED PYOGENIC PREPATELLAR BURSITIS

Abstract

Group C streptococci are common pathogen microorganisms in animal. Although they are part of the normal human flora, they rarely cause infections such as pharyngitis, arthritis, skin and soft tissue infections, meningitis, septicaemia, endocarditis or glomerulonephritis.In this paper a 57 years old male patient with Streptococcus equi prepatellar bursitis has been presented. When septic bursitis is suspected, aspiration of the bursa should be performed for microscopic fluid analysis, Gram staining and culture.Although Staphylococcus aureus is the most the most common agent in septic bursitis. STREPTOCOCCUS EQUI’NİN ETKEN OLDUĞU PİYOJENİK PREPATELLAR BURSİT OLGUSU

Öz

C grubu streptokoklar sıklıkla hayvanlarda patojen mikrorganizmalardır. İnsanlarda normal floranın bir parçası olmalarına karşın, nadiren farenjit, deri ve yumuşak doku enfeksiyonları, artrit, menenjit, bakteremi, endokardit veya glomerulonefrit gibi enfeksiyonlara neden olurlar. Bu yazıda Streptococcus equi’nin etken olduğu piyojenik prepateller bursit olgusu sunulmuştur. Septik bursit şüphesinde, mikroskobik sıvı analizi, Gram boyama ve kültür için bursa aspirasyonu yapılmalıdır. Septik bursitlerde en sık saptanan etken Staphylococcus aureusolmasına rağmen, streptokoklar ve S. equi etken olarak akla getirilmelidir
