Öz

This study examines the sustainability and conservation dimensions of nature-based tourism activities in Bolu Province through the Gaianist ecological perspective, which regards nature as a holistic entity with intrinsic value. Conducted with 15 stakeholders selected via purposive sampling for their homogeneous characteristics, the qualitative research employed semi-structured, in-depth interviews and analyzed the data through thematic analysis. The findings reveal that Bolu’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage present a strong potential for nature tourism; however, this potential is threatened by infrastructural deficiencies, uncontrolled visitor movements, shortcomings in waste management, and the commodification of cultural values. The study highlights the necessity of ecosystem protection, ethical responsibility that transcends anthropocentric approaches, and the empowerment of local stakeholder participation. Accordingly, it proposes policy interventions such as ecosystem-based spatial planning, adaptive ecological monitoring, green certification, environmental education, and participatory governance. By linking Gaianist principles with field-based findings, the research provides a theoretical contribution to the sustainability literature while also offering practical strategies for ensuring the sustainability of nature tourism and the protection of the natural environment in Bolu.
