Riolan arc is a connection that provides collateral perfusion and blood supply after occlusion and atherosclerotic stenosis of a. mesenterica superior or a. mesenterica inferior. It was first described by a French anatomist, Jean Riolan (1580-1657). Many studies show that these pre-existing vascular structures and the Riolan arc have expanded in case of a significant stenosis of a. mesenterica superior and a. mesenterica inferior. Riolan arc was detected randomly in computed tomography angiography images of a 47-year-old male patient admitted to our hospital with the complaint of peripheral artery disease. A. mesenterica superior was being reconstructed after total occlusion observed proximal in the origin of a. mesenterica superior. It was observed that the Riolan arc between a. mesenterica superior and a. mesenterica inferior, which was effective in providing this reconstruction, was clear and distinct. Riolan arc is a vital vascular connection in the nutrition of the intestines.

Riolan arkı, a. mesenterica superior veya a. mesenterica inferior oklüzyonundan ve aterosklerotik stenozdan sonra kollateral perfüzyonu ve kanlanmayı sağlayan bir bağlantıdır. İlk defa Fransız bir anatomist olan Jean Riolan (1580-1657) tarafından tanımlanmıştır. Birçok çalışma, a. mesenterica superior ve a. mesenterica inferior’un önemli bir darlığı durumunda önceden var olan bu damar yapılarının ve Riolan arkının genişlediğini göstermektedir. Hastanemize periferik arter hastalığı şikayeti ile başvuran 47 yaşındaki erkek hastanın bilgisayarlı tomografi anjiografi görüntülerinde rastlantısal olarak Riolan arkı tespit edildi. A. mesenterica superior orjininde proksimalde görülen total oklüzyondan sonra a. mesenterica superior rekonstrükte olmakta idi. Bu rekonstrüksiyonun sağlanmasında etkili olan a. mesenterica superior ve a. mesenterica inferior arasında bulunan riolan arkının açık ve belirginleşmiş olduğu görüldü. Riolan arkı barsakların beslenmesinde hayati öneme sahip bir vasküler bağlantıdır.
