Investigating The Attitudes of Health Sciences Faculty Students Towards People with Disabilities
Abstract
Objective: The objective of the research is to investigate the attitudes of students in the health sciences faculty towards individuals with disabilities.
Methods: The descriptive study's sample included 347 students enrolled in the health sciences faculty at an foundation university in İstanbul. Data was collected between March 21 and May 31, 2023. "Introductory Information Form" and "Multidimensional Attitude Scale Towards Disabled People" were used as instruments for data gathering.
Results: According to the research findings, it was found that the mean age of the students was 20.67 ± 1.65% and most of them were female (89.4%). The "Multidimensional Attitude Scale Towards Disabled People" score was determined as 113.12±14.25. It was found that the scale total score and subscale scores of the students who has female gender, wanted to work in institutions with disabled individuals and who stated that they had taken a course for disabled people were significantly higher than the other students (p <0.05).
Conclusion: In line with the research results, it was determined that the attitude scale scores of the students of the faculty of health sciences towards the disabled were at a good level. It is important to provide education and courses for disabled individuals in universities.
