Bibliometric Analysis of Chronic Acromioclavicular Joint Dislocations

Öz

Objective: This study aimed to bibliometrically analyze the most highly cited publications on the diagnosis and treatment of chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocations, identifying research trends, leading journals, contributing countries, and levels of evidence. Methods: In November 2025, a comprehensive literature search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection database to identify publications related to chronic AC joint dislocations. After applying predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, the 50 most-cited original articles were selected for analysis. Bibliometric parameters including publication year, journal, country of origin, authorship contribution, total and annual citation counts, study design, and levels of evidence were evaluated. Results The 50 studies published between 1998 and 2021 accumulated a total of 2,685 citations, with a mean of 53.7 citations per article. The highest number of publications appeared in Arthroscopy – The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, The American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy. The United States ranked first in terms of both publication output and total citation count. Clinical studies accounted for 98% of the included articles, with the majority classified as Level IV evidence. The most frequently investigated topics were surgical treatment strategies and ligament reconstruction techniques. Conclusion This bibliometric analysis shows that research on chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocations is largely focused on surgical management and is dominated by studies with low levels of evidence. These findings underscore the need for high-quality, prospective, multicenter studies to strengthen the evidence base and guide future research.
