The Socio-Economic and Administrative Supervision of Asylum Seeker Under International Protection: A Study Focusing on Van Province

Öz

The detention of foreigners seeking international protection in Türkiye is considered a significant human rights issue. This study addresses the issue in question within the framework of “administrative supervision” practices; it examines the administrative and socio-economic supervision processes of asylum seekers with international protection status, specifically focusing on the province of Van. The study, which evaluated a sample group consisting of staff working in the relevant units of the Provincial Migration Administration Directorate, representatives of civil society organizations, and lawyers specializing in migration, was discussed within the scope of qualitative research methods, specifically the multiple interview technique and content analysis. The interviews were conducted using questions prepared in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law; additionally, administrative supervision decisions issued by the Van Peace Criminal Court regarding the subject were analyzed. The study emphasizes the necessity of an administrative supervision policy in Türkiye that is in line with international obligations and centers on human rights; it offers solutions aimed at protecting the legal and socio-economic rights of asylum seekers.
