When She Wants to Escape Violence but Has Nowhere to Stay: The Housing Problems of Turkish Migrant Women in Germany and the Role of Turkish Associations

Öz

The focus of this study is on the shelter-related needs of Turkish immigrant women in Germany who have experienced domestic violence, and the challenges they face in meeting these needs. This qualitative study pursues two main objectives: to explore the strategies women use to meet their housing needs and their experiences within shelters, and to assess the potential role of Turkish associations in Germany in addressing these needs. The findings from in-depth interviews highlight a clear demand for accessible and culturally sensitive shelter services. However, the capacity of Turkish associations to meet women’s shelter needs or to substantially improve the quality of existing services was assessed as limited.
