Analysis of Thermal Tourism Potential in Kuşadası

Abstract

According to 2019 tourism statistics the number of international tourists was 52.5 million, tourism income was 34.5 billion dollars, and the number of beds was 1.8 million. Turkey is ranked as the sixth country in the world in terms of the number of tourists, whereas it is ranked as the thirteenth in terms of tourism income. This shows that Turkey cannot have a larger share of the cake. Therefore, Turkey needs to diversify its tourism products. Some of the major problems are the seasonality of the tourism activities, short periods of tourist stay, and low rates of tourist spending. Health tourism appears to be the answer to all these issues. Since Turkish land is rich in thermal springs, it is important to develop thermal tourism. The province of Aydin, in addition to having great facilities of sea tourism, culture tourism, and history tourism, also possesses a great potential of thermal tourism. Kuşadası is among the first tourism destinations in Turkey. However, its location is not very advantageous. This study analyzes the potential of thermal tourism in Kuşadası region. In this context, the thermal tourism potential of Davutlar has been revealed by making a SWOT analysis. There are two thermal wells in Davutlar. There are thermal sources in Davutlar and it is thought that these resources cannot be used effectively. It is thought that the health tourism service to be provided by Davutlar will create an opportunity to increase the per capita expenditure of tourists.

Kuşadası’nda Termal Turizm Potansiyelinin Analizi

Öz

2019 yılı turizm istatistiklerine göre Türkiye’ye gelen uluslararası turist sayısı 52.5 milyon kişiye, turizm gelirleri 34.5 milyar dolara ve yatak sayısı 1.8 milyona ulaşmıştır. 2019 yılına ilişkin olarak bu veriler dikkate alındığında Türkiye’nin dünyada en çok turist çeken altıncı ülke olduğu, gelir açısından ise dünyada on üçüncü sırada yer aldığı söylenebilir. Bir başka deyişle, Türkiye’nin uluslararası turizm pastasından yeterli pay alamadığını ifade etmek mümkündür (YİGM, 2020). Bu nedenle Türkiye’nin turizm ürünlerinde çeşitliliğe gitmesi gerekmektedir. Türkiye’nin turizm sektörünün en önemli sorunlarından bazıları; mevsimlik özellik göstermesi, gelen turistlerin kalış sürelerinin kısa olması ve ortalama harcama düzeylerinin düşük olmasıdır. Bu sorunların çözümünün sağlık turizminin Türkiye’de geliştirilmesi ile mümkün olabileceği düşünülmektedir. Özellikle termal kaynak açısından Türkiye’nin zengin bir potansiyele sahip olması nedeniyle ülkede termal turizmin geliştirilmesi önem arz etmektedir. Aydın ili deniz, kültür ve tarih turizmi ile birlikte sağlık turizmi ve özelinde termal turizm açısından zengin bir potansiyele sahiptir. Özellikle Kuşadası’nda deniz turizmi ile birlikte Davutlar ve Güzelçamlı mahalleleri termal kaynak açısından oldukça zengindir. Bu çalışmada Kuşadası’nın termal turizm potansiyelinin analiz edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda Davutlar’ın SWOT analizi yapılarak termal turizm potansiyeli ortaya konulmuştur. Davutlar’da iki adet termal kuyu bulunmaktadır. Davutlar’da termal kaynaklar mevcut olup, bu kaynakların etkin bir şekilde kullanılamadığı düşünülmektedir. Davutlar’ın sunacağı sağlık turizmi hizmetinin turistlerin kişi başına yapmış oldukları harcamanın artırılması konusunda bir fırsat yaratacağı düşünülmektedir.
