Reconsidering BIM-LCA Integration for Environmental Assessment and Decision-Support Processes in the Construction Industry
Öz
The construction industry is responsible for a significant portion of global energy consumption and environmental emissions. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a crucial environmental management tool that analyzes the environmental impacts of the construction industry in an integrated and systematic way, and is vital for building carbon neutral built environments. The BIM integration approach stands out to optimize and support comprehensive LCA processes. This study aims to analyze existing studies in the field of BIM and LCA integration, identify significant gaps in this area, and propose a framework for providing an integrated and systematic perspective on integration. The proposed framework consists of four basic modules. Representative studies on BIM-LCA integration were selected and analyzed in accordance with the developed framework, and the evaluations are explained. The findings indicate a need for environmentally performance-oriented BIM-based decision support mechanisms that support LCA and multi-criteria decision-making processes. Furthermore, it provides a methodological basis for a decision support mechanism for BIM-LCA integration.
