“Can You Communicate with Me?” Partner Phubbing and Relationship Satisfaction Among Turkish Romantic Partners

Öz

This study was conducted to adapt the Partner Phubbing Scale into Turkish and to examine the relationship between partner phubbing behavior and relationship satisfaction in romantic relationships. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 350 participants. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, it was determined that the single-factor structure with 9 items of the scale was confirmed in the Turkish sample. The standardized item factor loadings ranged from .24 to .87, and all loadings were found to be statistically significant. The internal consistency coefficients were calculated as 0.85 for Cronbach’s alpha and 0.86 for McDonald’s omega. These findings indicate that the scale has an adequate level of reliability. In addition, it was found that women perceived higher levels of partner phubbing from their partners compared to men. A significant negative relationship was found between perceived partner phubbing and both self-control and relationship satisfaction. The findings suggest that partner phubbing may negatively affect interactions and relationship satisfaction in romantic relationships.
