Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the level of nurses’ realization of patient education by using the stages of the patient education process (determining educational needs, diagnosing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and recording).
Method: This study was designed as a descriptive and correlational study. The study was conducted with 259 nurses working in a training and research hospital in Istanbul. Data were obtained between 06/01/2023 and 07/31/2023 by the researchers using the Information Form and Patient Education Practice Scale. Statistical Package for Social Sciences 22.0 package program was used for statistical analysis for the data.
Results: It was found that 88 % of the nurses thought that patient education was the duty of nurses and physicians. The mean total score of the Patient Education Practice Scale was 176.20±23.39. The mean scale score of the nurses who thought that patient education was the duty of the nurse was higher than that of the nurses who thought that patient education was the duty of the physician (p<.05).
Conclusion: The findings of this study show that nurses perform patient education activities at a high level in line with the patient education process. Since patient education plays an important role in the nursing care process, it is recommended that regulations be put in place to ensure that nurses have sufficient knowledge and skills in patient education before graduation and that they embrace their role as educators.

Verilerin istatistiksel analizleri için Statistical Package for Social Sciences 22,0 paket programı kullanıldı.
Bulgular: Hemşirelerin %88’inin hasta eğitiminin hemşire ve hekimin görevi olduğunu düşündüğü saptandı. Hemşirelerin Hasta Eğitimi Uygulama Ölçeği toplam puan ortalaması 176,20 ± 23,39 olarak tespit edildi. Hasta eğitimi vermenin hemşirenin görevi olduğunu düşünen hemşirelerin ölçek puan ortalaması hasta eğitimi vermenin hekimin görevi olduğunu düşünen hemşirelerden daha yüksek bulundu (p<.05).
Sonuç: Çalışmada elde edilen bu bulgular hemşirelerin hasta eğitimi etkinliklerini hasta eğitimi süreci doğrultusunda gerçekleştirme düzeylerinin yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Hasta eğitimleri, hemşirelik bakım sürecinde önemli bir yere sahip olduğundan hemşirelerin mezun olmadan önce hasta eğitimine yönelik yeterli bilgi ve beceriye sahip olmasını ve hemşirenin eğitimci rolünü benimsemelerini sağlayacak düzenlemelerin yapılması önerilebilir.
