Studies on the religious structure of Anatolia in recent years have not gone beyond a sterile research. The fact that the works written on this subject, which is of utmost importance about the religious structures of the states, follow the ideological approaches of the researchers or that the dominant works are not examined in the selection of the source on the subject, this has caused the subject to be handled within the framework of a certain pattern. However, it is extremely important to consider the religious structures of the Seljuks, who started to settle in Anatolian lands for various reasons and turned this place into a Turkish homeland, from an impartial point of view in order to understand and solve today's problems. Seyfullah Kara also wrote this work in order to examine the religious life and religious institutions of at least one period of Anatolia due to the said deficiencies in the researches on the religious structures of the Seljuks. In this work, the author has examined the religious institutions of the Anatolian Seljuks, as well as the process and reasons for the Seljuks to become Muslims. In this work, which is extremely important in terms of Seljuk history, the author also included the effects of religion on the state and people during the Anatolian Seljuk period.

Anadolu’nun dini yapısı konusunda son yıllarda yapılan çalışmalar kısır bir araştırmanın ötesine gidememiştir. Devletlerin dini yapıları hakkında son derece öneme sahip olan bu konu hakkında yazılan eserlerin araştırmacıların ideolojik yaklaşımları ekseninde seyretmesi veya konuyla ilgili kaynak seçiminde başat eserlerin incelenmemesi konunun belli bir kalıp çerçevesinde ele alınmasına neden olmuştur. Ancak çeşitli nedenlerle Anadolu topraklarına yerleşmeye başlayan ve zaman içerisinde burayı bir Türk yurdu haline getiren Selçukluların dini yapılarını günümüz problemlerini anlamak ve çözüme kavuşturabilmek amacıyla tarafsız bir bakış açısıyla ele almak son derece önemlidir. Seyfullah Kara da Selçukluların dini yapıları hakkında yapılan araştırmalardaki söz konusu eksiklikler nedeniyle Anadolu’nun hiç olmazsa bir döneminin dini hayatını ve dini kurumlarını incelemek amacıyla bu eseri kaleme almıştır. Yazar bu eserinde Selçukluların Müslüman olmaları ile ilgili süreç ve nedenlere yer verdiği gibi Anadolu Selçuklularının dini kurumlarını da incelemiştir. Selçuklu tarihi açısından son derece önemli olan bu eserde yazar ayrıca Anadolu Selçukluları döneminde dinin devlet ve halka olan etkilerine de yer vermiştir.
